MRT
Modular Rendering Toolkit

What is the MRT?

The Modular Rendering Tooklkit (MRT) is a library for processing and rendering 3D scenes. The MRT provides classes and functions to manage and to work with all components of 3D scenes, e.g., geometric objects, surface properties, light sources, scene hierarchies, camera data. Beside that, the MRT offers different kinds of algorithms to visualize these 3D scenes: Interactive display in different modes (wireframe, flat shading, Gouraud, Phong), ray tracing, radiosity and photon mapping.

Features

The MRT is easily extensible and offers a lot of sophisticated rendering techniques:

  • ray tracing
  • photon mapping
  • hierarchical radiosity on curved surfaces
  • a hybrid space subdivision algorithm combining the strengths of various particular strategies
  • adaptively refined subdivision surfaces

Purposes

  • research
  • development
  • modelling (Maya plugin MRT4Maya)
  • supports different platforms
    - currently supported: Linux, Windows
    - with a little effort usable on: Macintosh, IRIX, Cygwin
